Sports Activity in Hassan

Sports activities are a must for all generations, as it helps one to maintain a healthy life, vent off excess energy and heightens sharpness of mind. Sports provide much needed physical exercise for our body, which helps in a good metabolism and a stronger heart. Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) honorary secretary and an ex-Indian cricket team member Javagal Srinath, once addressed to all the parents in a meeting stating, "Education must not be neglected for the sake of cricket and neither must healthy sporting activity be sacrificed using education as an excuse." The State government thus is trying to promote sports and fitness among the students Karnataka including Hassan district.

KSCA has inaugurated its new center called the RC-KSCA Academy in Hassan in October 2012, where international standard equipments have been built to train the young cricket talent for future Indian sporting representation. Three former Karnataka first class players are there as coaches along with legendary leaders like, GR Viswanath and Syed Kirmani.

For development of sports, the Hasanamba Indoor Stadium is another available option for local events. This measures 100m x 40m and has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 490 Lakhs (4.90 Crore) at the Hassan District Sports Stadium in January 2010. The stadium also houses an upcoming swimming pool, which boasts of first of kind Swimming pool in the country designed to operate ONLY ON rainwater. The state of the art rain water harvesting system is based on a uniquely designed and patented system, using the principle of cohesion and gravitation. There is another pool which can be converted to a heated swimming pool using solar power.

Apart from this, the Hassan District Sports Stadium also houses 3 Badminton Courts, 1 Squash Court with wooden floors, Basketball and Volleyball court along with Carrom and Chess facilities. Another facility available is the Municipality Swimming Pool. Other than that, there is other mentionable government or private sporting facility in the town.

This is the only “Green Stadium” with such facilities outside Bangalore, in Karnataka. The sports department of the state government has built commercial stalls around the stadium complex and the revenue accrued is utilized for the maintenance of the stadium. This indirectly is giving boost to the district’s economy.
